Namaste India 2021—celebrating 75 Years of India’s Independence in Guatemala

The Embassy of India in Guatemala organized a two day mega event to celebrate India@75 (Amrit Mahotsav) under the banner ‘Namaste India’ at Cayala, Guatemala City on 14-15 August 2021.  

2. This was the second edition of Namaste India organized in a grand scale in Guatemala.  The Indian automobile companies along with other major Indian companies and Indian restaurants were allotted open spaces to showcase their products.   The main attraction was an exhibition which projected India´s development story in the past 75 years.  The themes for the exhibition included, Mahatma Gandhi, India- The world´s largest democracy, India an IT super power, India- a Space power, India-Pharmacy of the World, Indian Automobiles-Made in India, Made for the world, Indian Textiles, Yoga, Auyerveda, Khadi, Bollywood, ITEC programme, Make In India, Indian cuisine and Incredible India.  The two day event also had a full calendar of cultural programme.

Several Ambassadors participated from the diplomatic community.  An estimated 3000 visitors visited the two-day event, including heads of various international organizations, representatives of the diplomatic corps, representatives of local government, prominent Guatemalan nationals, members of Indian community and people from different walks of life

 4. The participation in the event includes:

Automobile sector:  In the automobile sector, Mahindra, Bajaj, TVS, Royal Enfield, Hero and JK Tyres participated at the event and all of them displayed their vehicles and products. 

Pharmaceuticals:  The participants include, Caplin Point, which distributes around 400 formulations in Central America. 

Textile Sector:  Raymond, Aditya Birla, Welspun, Arvind and Amansh participated at the event. 

Agriculture Sector:  UPL one of the largest Indian agrochemical companies participated at the event. 

Handicrafts Sector:  Mi Mandala Bonito participated in the event and sold Indian handicraft products. 

Tourism:  India Tourism, New York was invited to participate at the Namaste India event.  With the support of Bajaj, we organized a photo booth, which offered free photos to visitors with iconic tourist destinations in India as the backdrop.  This became very popular among the visitors.

Culture:  We organized Bollywood dances, henna workshops, saree draping and fashion show of Indian textiles.   Sitar and Tabla players from Guatemala participated at the event. 

Yoga and Ayurveda:  Yoga demonstrations and Yoga for Wellness were organized.  Ayurvedic workshops were also organized.  Spiritual organizations like Art of Living and Centro Sri Chinmoy also participated at the event.

Indian Cuisine:  Three Indian restaurants participated and had their stalls.  We also organized a workshop on Indian Tea. 

Raffles:   We organized a free raffle competition for all the visitors.  Approximately, 2000 people participated in the raffle competition, which was organized in four stages.  Bajaj offered a motorcycle as a bumper prize.  All participating companies also provided gifts for raffles.  In total, we gave away 110 raffle gifts.
